Tsemön Ling
Tsemön Ling (tshe smon gling) is a monastery and the residence (bla brang) of the Tsemön Ling incarnations, three of whom served as regents (sde srid) of the Tibetan government. The monastery is in the northwest section of old Lhasa and was initially built during the time of the First Tsemön Ling Ngawang Tsültrim (ngag dbang tshul khrims, 1721-1791). Most of the current structures of the monastery date from the time of the Second Tsemön Ling Ngawang Jampel Tsültrim Gyatso (ngag dbang 'jam dpal tshul khrims rgya mtsho, 1792-1862/1864), who served as regent from 1819 to 1844. After 1959, most of the complex was converted to public housing; however, in 1987 the two main halls of the monastery were reopened.
