Shedra
The Shedra (bshad sgra) mansion is situated to the south of the Jokhang (jo khang) temple in Lhasa. It belonged to the powerful Shedra family. The Shedra mansion was built by Shedra Döndrup Dorjé (don grub rdo rje), possibly around 1816, with substantial renovations taking place in the 1850s under Shadra Wangchuk Gyelpo (dbang phyug rgyal po, 1795-1864) who briefly became Prime Minister (sde srid) from 1862-64. The mansion consists of a three-story main building with a courtyard to the south. The courtyard is flanked by two-story outbuildings. The main building served as the living quarters for the Shedra family. Many of the large residential complex's pre-1959 features are still preserved today, including two chapels with extant murals.
