Tönmi Sambhota, the minister of King Songtsen Gampo, lived here for a long time, during which he invented Tibetan language as well as translated the twenty-one sutras and tantras of Avalokiteshvara. In the palace is the famous six letter mani mantra written by Tönmi Sambhota and also many self-arisen objects of worship.
