Alger
Alger County is home to the colorful sandstone cliffs that constitute Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which was made America's first National Lakeshore in 1966. Alger County also encompasses Grand Island National Recreation Area, and its Ottawa and Hiawatha National Forests are part of the largest state forest system in the eastern US. Alger's county seat, Munising, was renowned for its wood products in the early to mid 20th century, and today is a major destination for travelers to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
