According to the oral accounts of Sumthrang's forefathers, the stone throne was offered to Terton Pema Lingpa when he visited Sumthrang where he was offered a feast on the way to Sumthrang by Ura community. A few meters below the stone throne there is also a stone known as the bowl of the dakinis, in which local noodle known as Puta was made and offered in the stone bowl. A fingerprint of Terton Pema Lingpa is believed to have appeared when he wiped his dirty hand on a rock after eating the puta. The rock with Pema Lingpa's fingerprint is now in the Sumthrang temple.
