This tree is believed to be residence tree of the local non-human spirit named Tomtang Nyepo, which is worshipped as the local protector deity. In the past, it is said this place was fully covered with a dark, thick forest that people dared not to pass through even in daytime. At present, only few trees including the Nyeshing remain alongside some houses and the Basic Health Unit.
