Drukgyel Dzong

In around 1649 a dzong was built by 2nd Druk desi Tenzin Drukdra in memory of the victory of Zhabdrung's army over the Tibetan invasion and was named Druk Gyel dzong the fortress of victory. The dzong was completely damaged by fire in 1951 and remained in ruins untill today. The palces around the knoll on which the ruins of the Drukgyel dzong sits is also known by the dzong's name Drukgyel.
