Tharpa Ling Monastery
The place first founded by Gyelwa Lorepa later became the main seat of Kuenkhen Longchen after he arrived in Bhutan. Kuenkhen Longchen after he spent a long retreat at the place teaching and guiding many followers established his seat monastery in 1353 after which the place was widely known as Tharpaling. The place later became a choice for many Nyingma and Kargyu scholars to spent retreat. Today Tharpaling had several monasteries main being the Tharpaling monastery consisting of Dratsang (Monastic school) and the Shedra (Monastic college) of Nyingma school. Above the Tharpaling Monastery is Choedrak monastery, a place where Guru Rinpoche meditated. The place is dotted with several sacred places.
