The school which is among the few early modern schools in Bhutan was established in 1960. Initially it had calsses till three with subjects including Hindi with Chokey and Budhist philosophy in the curriculam. The school curriculam gradually changed and until 1996 the school remained as the primary school with classes taught upto 6th grade. Since 1997 it bagan upgrading annually adding a class from seven until ten and today it is known as Ura Middle Secondary school with classes taught from Pre-primary upto 10th grade.
