Zhöl Parkhang
The Zhöl Parkhang (zhol par khang), or Zhöl Printing House, was established by the Fifth Dalai (1617-1682) in the eastern part of Zhöl (zhol) below the Potala (po ta la) Palace. Although it was the printing house of the Dalai Lama's Ganden Podrang (dga' ldan pho brang) government, it was not a massive printing establishment. A catalog compiled in the mid-twentieth century lists the collected works of Tsongkhapa (tsong kha pa, 1357-1419) and his two main disciples as well as around 120 additional titles for which the printing house had blocks. The Zhöl printing house was often referred to as the Eastern Zhöl Printing House (zhol par khang shar), after another larger printing house was built in Zhöl in the early twentieth century.
