Census reports and place name indexes (diminglu) from the 1980s that were consulted list this administrative unit as a "commune" (gongshe). However, since the administrative unit of commune was generally superseded by the later administrative unit of "township" (xiang) that came into use after the mid-1980s, this feature has also been designated as a township.
